Previous attendance of the IMI Forensic VIN Recovery course is required.
This refresher course is designed for police officers and vehicle examiners who have completed the IMI Forensic VIN Recovery course and need to update their skills. Focusing on the chemical and thermal restoration of erased VIN numbers, the course emphasises first hand practice to ensure proficiency is maintained.
The refresher training is conducted over 6 hours (from 9am to 3pm) and covers only the practical elements of the accredited course. The course is informal and aims to provide a supportive environment for participants to enhance their forensic recovery techniques.
Techniques for creating accurate casts of VINs.
Methods for re-etching erased VINs on steel surfaces.
Application of electro etching for VIN recovery.
Procedures for re-etching VINs on aluminium.
Techniques for thermal recovery of VINs on cast iron.
Updated practices and safety measures for forensic recovery.
The course is delivered in a relaxed and informal setting, without the pressure of exams or workbooks. Participants are encouraged to bring photographs of any challenging or successful re-etches they have encountered, facilitating an open discussion on best practices and improvement strategies.
