The breakthrough came in 1998 with the introduction of RFID chips embedded in caravans. These chips, carrying the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), allowed law enforcement to swiftly and accurately identify stolen vehicles using specialised scanners. The VIN provides vital information such as the vehicle’s origin, manufacturer, year, and model, which has been crucial in reducing caravan thefts.
